St. Louis published in December 2022 a new ADA Transition Plan Framework. The ADA Act requires that all state and local agencies with more than fifty employees perform a “self-evaluation” of programs, services, and activities to identify and eliminate barriers to access within all departments. Evaluations were completed through a collaboration between the Board of Public Service and the Office of the Disabled.
The framework is a living document in which work done to eliminate barriers will be tracked and updated. It also establishes schedules and priorities with hopes of completing the plan. It is highly unlikely that all barriers will be eliminated due to budget and time constraints, but this framework will guide the City as it works to become a more accessible place for all.
