Mayor Jones Signed Board Bill 120 - $40 Million Investment for Slower Streets

Mayor Jones on Wednesday signed Board Bill 120 which will dedicate $40 million of American Rescue Plan funding toward slower streets and better pedestrian infrastructure. The line items for this bill includes but not limited to:

- $14.5 million to address ADA and traffic calming calming improvements with five corridors as identified in Board Bill 184,

- $12 million to implement traffic calming and roadway improvements recommendations based on completed traffic studies,

- $3.5 million for improvements to the top ten crash locations,

- $1.25 million for a Mobility and Transportation Master Plan,

- and $6 million for sidewalk improvements.

Designing the improvements will take the rest of 2023 and construction is not expected to start until 2024. The Community Mobility Committee applauds the city for this funding allocation, but will continue to advocate for additional funding and initiatives such as red-light enforcement cameras, required driver’s education, and the hiring of a multi-modal transportation position within the Streets Department.
