Chicago recently installed traffic calming elements at 18 intersections in hopes of slowing left turns and reducing collisions with pedestrians (see below for an example). As stated in an Axios article by Monica Eng, data from the pilot program shows a 25 percent reduction in crashes at the updated intersections. The project is part of the city’s efforts to reach its Vision Zero goals and eliminate pedestrian deaths.
